SmackDown Five-Point Preview: Jan 31, 2014
A bad moon rising?
On Monday, The Wyatt Family cost The Shield their chance to be part of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Match on Feb. 23.
Exclusive: COO Triple H comments of events from Raw
Could their actions have placed the two incredible factions on a collision course tonight at 8/7 CT on Syfy? The Shield will definitely be on hand, already scheduled to battle Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio & Sheamus – returning to Friday night following a long-standing injury. Will they dare seek justice against the New Face of Fear as well?
Who else will compete in the Chamber?
Speaking of the Elimination Chamber Match, two spots still remain vacant in the career-altering pay-per-view showdown. But that will not be the case for long. That’s because two Elimination Chamber Qualifying Matches have been announced for tonight’s SmackDown.
Christian's championship history
First, two-time World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler will go head-to-head with the freakishly powerful Antonio Cesaro. Then, two former World Heavyweight Champions will collide when the returning Christian battles Jack Swagger. With two Real Americans in the fray, one, if not both, fearsome Superstars could very well win their chance at immortality. But, those odds quickly even out once you throw Captain Charisma and The Showoff into the mix.
Is Brock Lesnar coming back to SmackDown?
Twenty-four hours after annihilating Big Show in a ruthless display of aggression at Royal Rumble, Brock Lesnar laid waste to Cody Rhodes & Goldust – partly because The Authority wouldn’t grant the angry competitor a match against Batista or WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton. Then, on Tuesday night, WWE.com revealed that The Anomaly was fined $10,000 for his actions against a referee at Sunday’s pay-per-view.

Could The Anomaly’s rampage continue tonight on SmackDown? And if so, just who will catch the brunt of it?
What will happen on the “Rhodes” to Steel Cage bedlam?
It’s truly a relief that, despite the vicious Raw attack by Brock Lesnar, Cody Rhodes will still be able to compete tonight. Perhaps the former Intercontinental Champion is motivated by the fact that he will be facing one of the Superstars who captured the Rhodes brothers’ WWE Tag Team Championships on Royal Rumble Kickoff, Road Dogg?
In light of WWE COO Triple H’s announcement that the two tag teams will battle for the titles in a Steel Cage this Monday on Raw, it will be interesting to see how intense this battle for momentum will be.
Who will step into the WrestleMania spotlight?
Sunday’s Royal Rumble event marked the official beginning of The Road to WrestleMania. And while many A-list Superstars will surely be part of the grand splendor of The Show of Shows in one form or another, the really enticing question emerges as to how other Superstars will make themselves stand out in the coming weeks and months – all hoping to be a part of The Showcase of the Immortals.
Case in point, tonight’s match pitting Kofi Kingston against Damien Sandow. Will The Wildcat, whose jaw-dropping heroics in the Royal Rumble Match provided one of the true highlights of the free-for-all, reach new heights in the explosive showdown? Or will The Intellectual Savior of the Masses, who has had a rough last few months, turn it around and ground his high-octane opponent?
