SmackDown Five-Point Preview: July 20, 2012
How will AJ and Bryan fare when “The Peep Show” takes a closer look at their love?
Intercontinental Champion Christian welcomes engaged couple Daniel Bryan and AJ into the always stormy waters of “The Peep Show” tonight, just three days before they will tie the knot in a whirlwind wedding on the 1,000th episode of Raw — this Monday at 8/7 CT on USA.
Considering the non-stop controversy in recent months — centered around one of the most unpredictable Divas in WWE history, the squared circle’s ultimate “Yes!” man and his adversary, WWE Champion CM Punk — it’s only fitting that that the now betrothed pair share the stage with one of the ring’s most controversial and outspoken Superstars. What will Captain Charisma have to say about their impending union?
Will Ziggler cash in on World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus?
At Money in the Bank, Dolph Ziggler rose to a new level, overcoming seven other Superstars to capture a highly coveted contract that has earned him an opportunity at the World Heavyweight Championship any time he chooses. Although The Showoff has an entire year to cash it in, he already looked to do so on the very same night of his victory — only to have his plans come to a crashing halt when World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus attacked him before the bell could ring.
If he was that anxious on Sunday, it only stands to reason that SmackDown — the show where he truly grew to prominence — would be the perfect place to follow-up on his pay-per-view course of action. After all, it was on the blue brand in 2011 when Ziggler became the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time. It would also not be an unprecedented move, as Jack Swagger chose to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on SmackDown in 2010, winning the World Title from Chris Jericho just five days after acquiring the contract.
And with the earth-shattering announcement by John Cena that he is cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on WWE Champion CM Punk this Monday — on the 1,000th episode of Raw — it would be just Ziggler’s style to steal the momentum in his continued quest to prove his elite status.
What will Rey have to say when he returns home?
After his explosive return from injury on this Monday’s Raw SuperShow, Rey Mysterio will journey home to both SmackDown and San Diego tonight, the very location where Alberto Del Rio put him out of action nearly one year ago. When he addresses the WWE Universe, The Ultimate Underdog is sure to have a lot to get off his chest as he looks to rock the 619.
Will Big Show make SmackDown a 'Big’ deal?
Despite his vicious change in attitude as of late, Big Show fell short in his bid to win the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE Championship Contract at last Sunday’s pay-per-view — after John Cena clocked him with the briefcase and knocked him off the ladder. One day later, the leader of the Cenation again blasted The World’s Largest Athlete, leaving him humiliated and thirsty for vengeance.
An aggravated giant is more dangerous than a powder keg of dynamite. Taking into consideration his lack of restraint in recent months and the fact that he is not known to wait long to make a painful point, Big Show may very well stomp his way onto SmackDown tonight with fire in his eyes.
Is Slater heading for a legendary SmackDown?
For weeks now, Heath Slater has been having run-ins with a slew of WWE legends, from Sycho Sid to Doink the Clown to WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Now, as WWE hits its last stop before the historic 1,000th episode of Raw — the monumental event that will welcome back the likes of The Rock and D-Generation X — could The One-Man Band’s legendary troubles follow him all the way to Friday night?
