Who will suffer the wrath of John Laurinaitis?
Is the Funkasaurus an endangered species?
Prior to the Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny showdown at WrestleMania, questions were raised at the SmackDown announce table and across the WWE Universe. Would certain people become the subject of retribution if they supported the losing camp? And now that John Laurinaitis’ Superstars have prevailed, who, if anyone is marked to suffer? As is the case in any situation of unchecked power, the answer could be – quite simply – anyone who gets in Johnny’s way.
Right out of the gate on Raw SuperShow – one day after increasing his power exponentially – “Mr. Excitement” put Team Teddy’s team captain Santino Marella into a Triple Threat United States Title Match against Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. This may be only the beginning of strategic moves against Laurinaitis’ enemies. In that match alone, Brodus Clay came forth to even the odds, possibly opening The Funkasaurus up to Laurinaitis’ future scorn. ( RAW RESULTS | WATCH | PHOTOS)
Target: Teddy Long
Longtime GM Theodore Long’s future is completely uncertain, as his powerful adversary now appears to hold Teddy’s fate completely in his hands. To read six things that might happen to Mr. Long, Click here.
Booker T is stuck in the limelight
In fact, every member of Team Teddy might be destined to peril in one way or another.
Given his role as SmackDown color-commentator, Booker T has no choice but to remain in the limelight. The six-time World Heavyweight Champion has been vocal against “Mr. Excitement” from the start, before joining the battle directly as a member of Team Teddy at The Show of Shows. Now, Laurinaitis knows where he is every moment of the show, like a hunter watching his prey, picking when and where he will take action.
Opposing champions beware
In the case of champions who have given the General Manger trouble – including Marella and CM Punk – their titles almost work as a shield against being fired outright. In order to follow his credo of “giving the people what they want,” Laurinaitis is almost obligated to carry out payback against these individuals inside the ring – pitting them against impossible odds for as long as they are able to hold onto the championship gold.
Three for the Hall of Pain
However, Team Teddy members Kofi Kingston, Zack Ryder and R-Truth have no such cover. Not only can they be put into a number of crazy matches at the new GM’s discretion, but they could also be fired at any time, given lesser contracts or even attacked in the locker room – simply because the man in charge deems it acceptable. And with the destructive nature of Superstars like Mark Henry holding the favor of the Executive VP of Talent Relations, the Hall of Pain might be building a whole new wing.
Taking care of female trouble
And what of Aksana? Teddy Long’s girlfriend may ultimately reap the whirlwind by association. When Laurinaitis was put in charge of the March 9 edition of SmackDown, he was ready to put the Ukranian beauty in a match against the monstrous Kane if his SmackDown counterpart didn’t lose to him in a match. Thanks to Randy Orton neutralizing The Big Red Monster, Teddy won and escaped with Aksana ( WATCH | PHOTOS). But, the fact is, Teddy did win. Does that mean that his girlfriend will be facing Kane in the near future?
Will The Viper fall victim?
The Viper himself could also become a target of vengeance. Though not a member of Team Teddy, WWE's Apex Predator has been a thorn in Laurinaitis' side several times during his campaign to assume power. Considering how he helped to embarrass Johnny while he was attempting to impress the WWE Board of Directors as the board-appointed GM of SmackDown, will the head-honcho of both Raw and SmackDown now have special plans for Orton in his WrestleMania rematch with Kane this Friday?
With his team’s victory on The Grandest Stage of Them All, John Laurinaitis cast his powerful shadow over both Raw and SmackDown. But, who will be left in darkness in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
