United States Champion The Miz def. MVP
ATLANTA - In an impromptu match set up by SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long just moments before, The Miz somehow defeated MVP to retain his United States Championship. Following the match, after The Miz started to taunt MVP, The Franchise Playa snapped, laying the United States Champion out with the Playmaker before making his way to the locker room.
Just as The Miz's arrogant attitude left him looking up at the lights, it also was what led to the match being made in the first place. While Long and several others were conversing in the locker room area, the self-proclaimed "Awesome One" came in and lambasted the group for their inability to understand pop culture as The Miz does.
Due to the lack of respect shown, Long gave The Miz a reality check, noting that this was the Royal Rumble, not Raw, and that the SmackDown GM was the one in charge. With that in mind, Long sent an unprepared Miz into action with him set to defend his United States Title against the man who earned the No. 1 Contender spot a few weeks ago, MVP.
Considering MVP was aiming to take out The Miz in the Rumble Match later in the night, The Ballin' Superstar showed up ready for battle and went right after the U.S. Champion. For most of the bout, the self-proclaimed "Awesome One" looked to be outmatched and outclassed by his opponent, but, as sly as ever, The Miz found an opening and capitalized on it to pick up a quick pin for the win.
Already visibly dejected regarding the result of the match, MVP was in no mood to deal with The Miz after he barely stole the win. All in all, it just wasn't the right time to be bragging as The Miz found out the hard way when a livid MVP nailed the Playmaker to put a quick end to his taunts.
Though The Miz escaped with his title tonight, he was lucky to win this battle and from the looks of things, the war is far from over between these two.
