Ron Simmons weighs in on the Royal Rumble
A veteran of a half-dozen Royal Rumble Matches, Ron Simmons knows what it takes to do well in the 30-man free for all. This week, WWE.com caught up with Ron to get his thoughts on this year's event.
Ashley vs. Mickie James with Trish Stratus as the special guest referee
Ron's pick: Everyone's a winner
"There ain't no losers in that! Every guy watching that match is thinking the same thing: everybody wins!"
JBL vs. The Boogeyman
Ron's pick: JBL
"Do you think I'm gonna pick against my boy Bradshaw? I'm gonna be very disappointed if I find out that my former partner of six years is afraid of the dark! There is no Boogeyman on this planet that can scare him, and I'm gonna be disappointed if I find out that I traveled up and down the road with a man who is afraid of the dark! Let the bed bugs bite but don't be afraid of the Booogeyman."
Edge vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship
Ron's pick: Cena
"Another great match. I think John has the advantage because there's revenge in his eyes. Edge is another one of my old partners, but I think Cena's got the edge here."
Kurt Angle vs. Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship
Ron's pick: Undecided
"Oh man, to be honest with you, I can't choose between these guys. This is gonna be a fantastic match. On one side, Angle has the technique, the mat skills, and the Olympic pedigree. On the other hand, Henry's got the power, he's agile for a big man, and he's much improved as a wrestler. Plus, he's also a former Olympian. It doesn't get any better than this. I know what both men are capable of. Henry's my boy, but I love Kurt too, and there's no way I can choose. It's gonna be a great match."
The Royal Rumble Match
Ron's pick: Coach
"Man, there's a lot of talent in there, but you know who I'm going with? I'm going with the Coach! You know why? What better person can you have in there than a Coach? He's gonna coach them all to do what he wants, and he's gonna surprise everybody. I've been around a lot of Coaches, and I've never seen a better one than him. But you tell Jonathan that if it doesn't work out, I'm gonna have to give him a Dominator. Maybe Lashley will do it for me."
