Arena Report - Kansas Expocentre

The tournament to find the next Women’s Champion continues as RAW comes to the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka. The Superstars will battle in Landon Arena, one of five major facilities on the Expocentre grounds.

RAW’s last broadcast from the Expocentre was on April 26, 2004, when a green Triple H hit Tajiri with a Pedigree and the three-count. The match took place after Triple H was blinded by green mist in a confrontation with Tajiri earlier in the night. Also that night, Kane sneaked a kiss with Lita in during his match with Matt Hardy and World Tag Team Champions Edge and Chris Benoit defeated Ric Flair and Batista to retain the gold.

One of the most memorable nights in Kansas Expocentre history took place when Saturday Night Main Event trick or treated in Topeka on Oct. 31, 1989. WWE fans saw “The Genius” Lanny Poffo upset WWE Champion Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster, however, lost via count out and was able to retain the gold. Also highlighting SNME was the Two-Out-of-Three Falls Match between the Rockers and the Brain Busters, which ended when Shawn Michaels pinned Arn Anderson to win the match for the Rockers.

The Kansas Expocentre also played host to WCW Clash of Champions 18 on January 21, 1992. Mick Foley was in action that night, as was the powerful combination of Steve Austin and Rick Rude.

The Expocentre was built in 1987. It serves as home to the Kansas Koyotes arena football team and the Topeka Tarantulas ice hockey team.
