Continental Airlines Arena – East Rutherford, N.J.

In 2004, No Mercy was held at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J., where John Cena defeated Booker T for the United States Championship and JBL defeated Undertaker to retain the WWE Championship. The arena has hosted other pay-per-views as well, including SummerSlam in 1989 as the Meadowlands Arena; SummerSlam in 1997, when Bret Hart defeated Undertaker for the WWE Championship; and King of the Ring in 2001, where Edge defeated Kurt Angle to win the tournament. The arena has also hosted several RAW and SmackDown live events.

Part of the Meadowlands Sports Complex, the Continental Airlines Arena is home to the National Hockey League’s Devils and the National Basketball Association’s Nets. The Seton Hall University’s men’s basketball team plays there as well. The arena is also known as a popular concert venue because of its good acoustics. When it opened in 1981, New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen played six concerts there. "The Boss" is still the venue’s most popular act – Springsteen has played a 10-night, sold out run in 1984, an 11-night run in 1992 and a 15-night, sold out run in 1999.

East Rutherford is a borough in Bergen County, N.J., with a population of approximately 8,700. East Rutherford is most known for the Meadowlands Sports Complex, including the Continental Airlines Arena and Giants Stadium, home of the National Football League’s New York Jets and New York Giants, and Major League Soccer’s Red Bull of New York. It’s the only town with a population less than 10,000 with five professional sports teams. East Rutherford is across the Hudson River from New York City and is less than 15 miles driving distance.
