Adding fuel to the fire

MIAMI -- There was a new look for the Land of the Extreme as ECW on Sci Fi hit the air Tuesday night. New ECW Champion Kane fired up the evening when he made his way to the ring, hoisting the title he won Sunday night after overcoming 23 other competitors in a WrestleMania Battle Royal, then defeating Chavo Guerrero in one-on-one action that same evening. (Read the recap...)

To most ECW Superstars, Kane proved on Sunday that he deserves the Extreme top spot. But former champion Guerrero doesn't fit into that "most" category -- a point he made clear when he announced that he had convinced ECW General Manager Armando Estrada to pit the "Mexican Warrior" & Shelton Benjamin against Kane & CM Punk in Tuesday's main event.

By guaranteeing himself a rematch, Guerrero also ensured that he would have the first opportunity at unseating Kane as champion, despite Punk -- who won WrestleMania's Money in the Bank Ladder Match (Read the recap...) -- voicing interest in challenging the Big Red Machine for the title moments earlier.

In a tag contest where Chavo was intent on proving himself against Kane, and Shelton Benjamin wanted to show that he is still deserving of his "Gold Standard" label, the new ECW Champion & the Straightedge Superstar would do all of the asserting. Punk hit the GTS on the bitter Benjamin, then picked up the three-count to give himself and Kane the victory.

Resentfully eyeing the new champion and Punk from a safe distance up the ramp, it's clear that the self-proclaimed "Mexican Warrior" has a problem with no longer being on top of the extreme world. However, pushiness has always been a strong trait for the Superstar and he has his sights set on regaining that ECW Championship in the near future.

Will Chavo find a way to earn back the gold? Or will Kane out-strategize him once again? It all starts on the next ECW on Sci Fi, Tuesday at 10/9 CT.
