Akira Tozawa vs. Kenneth Johnson (First Round Match)
The first round of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic continues this Wednesday at 9/8 C on WWE Network with four high-octane bouts, including a showdown between Japan’s Akira Tozawa and Kenneth Johnson of the United States.
Tozawa enters the tournament as a favorite to make a deep run. A speedy, hard-hitting grappler and staple of the Dragon Gate promotion, Tozawa has dreamed of competing in WWE for years. Having prepared for a long time and building experience against Superstars like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Cesaro, he finally has the opportunity to make his dreams come true in the CWC.
Kenneth Johnson may not have the international renown of Tozawa, but he may have the most heart and determination of anyone in the Cruiserweight Classic. Johnson longed of being a wrestler, going so far as to pack up from his native Detroit to train with Mr. Hughes, then heading to San Antonio to further sharpen his skills with former Cruiserweight Champion Funaki. Though he has plied his craft on the American independents ever since, he’s now looking to make a splash on the worldwide stage.
Will Tozawa show why he comes into the CWC so highly touted, or will Johnson achieve his goal to “uplift, motivate, inspire and encourage others”?
