WASHINGTON D.C. – At WWE Capitol Punishment, Ezekiel Jackson captured the Intercontinental Championship with a monumental victory over former Corre cohort Wade Barrett. Before the match, Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett emerged before the Washington members of the WWE Universe with a microphone in his hand, ready to point out the shortcomings of both the United States of America and his opponent Ezekiel Jackson.
But, once the bell rang, the intense dislike between the two former associates took center stage in an absolutely brutal battle that rocked WWE to the “Corre.” And after stunning the WWE Universe by kicking out of Barrett’s devastating Wasteland, the powerful Jackson broke loose, delivering a series of crippling body slams, before making the English Superstar tap-out with the backbreaker.
After scoring the biggest victory of his career, the
ecstatic new Intercontinental Champion expressed to Jerry “The King” Lawler his
enthusiastic belief in liberty and “The Personification of Domination.”
Standing side by side as members of the dominating faction The Corre – along with Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel – Barrett and Jackson were once perceived as equals, poised to bring a new era of domination to SmackDown. But, shortly after Barrett won the Intercontinental Title, he and his bruising brethren began to raise questions as to whether Jackson was pulling his weight.
The ruthless Brit’s superiority-by-numbers formula
was further disrupted when Jackson began to demonstrate independence from his
comrades-in-arms. Things reached an absolute boil on the May 6 edition of
SmackDown when, after walking out on The Corre, the chiseled Superstar was
officially “excommunicated” from the group with a painful exclamation point. 
In the weeks that followed, Jackson fell prey to the overwhelming 3-on-1 advantage of the Corre’s remaining members, ultimately keeping Barrett’s title inches from his grasp. But, the final ECW Champion would gain the upper hand, out-battering his former allies on several occasions. And when a disgruntled Gabriel and Slater finally disassociated themselves from Barrett, it became evident that his Intercontinental Championship reign was in real jeopardy – a threat that would prove true at Capitol Punishment.
