Mia Yim draws inspiration from legendary competitors like Lita and Aja Kong, but with her Muay Thai and Taekwondo background, the self-proclaimed “Blasian Baddie” has paved her own path over the course of her nine-year career.
Though a leg injury put Yim on the shelf following her appearance in last year’s Mae Young Classic, the rehab helped her refocus. Upon returning to competition in April 2018, she made winning her only goal. Yim has also directed her attention from dives and aerial acrobatics toward strikes and submissions, and her ear-to-ear smile and happy-to-be-here demeanor are long gone, replaced by dangerous ambition.
