WWE wins big at 6th Annual Shorty Awards

NEW YORK - At the 6th Annual Shorty Awards, which recognize the year's best achievements in social media, WWE took home three prestigious honors for 2014: Best Branded Mobile App, Best YouTube Channel and Best Use of Social Media in Sports.

In the highly competitive Branded Mobile App category, WWE bested MTV, VH1, Nike, Visa, Bleacher Report, Bravo, Comedy Central and others to win the night's most coveted prize. WWE received additional awards for Best Use of Social Media for Sports – providing unprecedented social and digital coverage of last year’s WrestleMania 29, beating HBO Boxing, NCAA March Madness Live and Turner Sports – plus Best Brand on YouTube. With more than 3.1 million subscribers,  WWE on YouTube is one of the most-followed entertainment and sports brands on YouTube, with more than two billion total video views in 2013.

The Shorty Awards honor the best of social media, recognizing the people and organizations producing real-time short form content across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Instagram, Vine, and the rest of the social web. Voted on by leaders in entertainment, technology and journalism, this year's "Academy" included Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, Apple luminary Steve Wozniak, and technologist and author David Pogue.
