Matt Talks Hardys' "Twist of Fate"

With today's DVD release of Twist of Fate: The Matt and Jeff Hardy Story, newly-crowned United States Champion Matt Hardy spoke exclusively with WWE.com on the Hardys' remarkable decade in WWE, and gave an inside scoop on what our fans can expect from the two-disc set.

"Anyone who is not only a Matt or Jeff Hardy fan, but also a sports-entertainment fan, will really enjoy this," Matt said of the DVD. "Our story is about two guys that really refused to be denied when it came to following and achieving our dreams. It's called Twist of Fate because of our hard work and dedication. It was a twist of fate that we made it to WWE."

The two-DVD set chronicles the brothers' rise as independent stars in OMEGA Wrestling in the Carolinas to becoming one of the most successful tandems in sports-entertainment history -- winning seven World Tag Team Championships together.

"Jeff and I dreamed of making it to WWE one day and becoming tag team champions," Matt said with a grin. "I'm so fortunate, because we've done so much more than that."

The passage to WWE Superstardom began in Cameron, N.C., on 120 acres of land, where two adventurous young boys discovered their life's calling.

"We didn't have a lot of toys to work with, so we used our imaginations to entertain one another," Matt recalled. "We begged our dad to get us a trampoline. When we finally got it, we built a ring around it and emulated what we saw on TV. We thought wrestling was the coolest thing ever. It made us living, breathing superheroes. Once we discovered that, we were like, ‘Man, this is what we want to do.'"

The duo's dream to wrestle in WWE became reality in 1998, when the they debuted on Heat. In 2000, The Hardys put their daredevil-type wrestling maneuvers on display when they returned to North Carolina at SummerSlam, and skyrocketed notoriety in the first-ever Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match. Team Extreme carried over their momentum from SummerSlam, conquering WWE's tag team division. (Watch a full chapter: Team Extreme)

Twist of Fate also discredits those critics who doubted the Hardys' ability to succeed in singles competition. Jeff is a four-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, and at Backlash, Matt achieved his greatest solo accomplishment, proving that he was better than arch-rival MVP to become the new United States Champion.

"As soon as I heard the three-count come down, I was overwhelmed with emotion. I've wanted to win the United States Championship for so long. It was a personal goal of mine for so many years, and it's only the beginning of greater things to come," Matt explained. "I speak for both myself and Jeff when I say I think we could really put the stamp on our careers with me winning a World Heavyweight Title and him winning the WWE Championship."

Twist of Fate offers any fan who has ever wanted to tap into the personal life of the Hardys an inside look into the brothers' world "over the ropes." Matt says the DVD will also delve into personal relationships, including his turbulent breakup with Lita and conflicts with Edge.

Matt feels that the Hardys' tale is inspirational for any person who has ever been told that they couldn't achieve a certain level of success in life.

"When our careers are finally over, we want people to look at us and realize that nothing is impossible in this world," he said. "Physically, neither one of us had anything amazing that stood out; it was our realness, personal charisma and our interactions with people that made us unique. We're good examples that you can achieve anything in life, if you refuse to be denied and work your rear end off."
