Stone Cold gears up for NASCAR, Texas-style
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is getting revved up for the Samsung 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup race on April 15. The star of The Condemned will take over duties as Grand Marshall of the race. The Texas Rattlesnake will participate in events the week leading up to the race at the Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas/Fort Worth.
Prior to the Samsung 500, Stone Cold will deliver the most famous words in motorsports, "Gentlemen, start your engines!" He'll introduce the top 10 drivers in the race's starting grid, live in front of 150,000 fans in the grandstands and the Fox audience watching at home. He'll attend the prerace drivers' meeting and be introduced to the starting field. Stone Cold will also hang out with driver of the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge, Elliott Sadler, who is a big WWE fan; and watch the start of the race atop Sadler's pit box.
After a media day and Cup driver practice and qualifying on April 13, Stone Cold will attend the screening of the documentary Dale, which chronicles the life of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr.
On April 12, Stone Cold will take part in Aaron's Fandago, a special event for season ticket holders at the Texas Motor Speedway. Approximately 15,000 fans will attend the live talk show hosted by Michael Waltrip, driver of the No. 55 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota; and emceed by Eddie Gossage, president of the Texas Motor Speedway. Other Fandago participants include Speedway Motorsports Inc. chairman, Bruton Smith; driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford, Carl Edwards; and driver of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford, Kenny Schrader.
In addition to Stone Cold's busy NASCAR schedule, he will be a co-presenter at the Country Music Television awards next week, and walk the show's red carpet in Nashville, Tenn.
