Revisit the classics
In addition to the action of Monday Night RAW and Friday Night SmackDown, you can now appreciate the roots of WWE. On Wednesday nights from 8-10 p.m. on the MSG network, "WWE Presents Madison Square Garden Classics" will showcase vintage matches involving current and former WWE Superstars that have paved the way for today's brand of sports-entertainment.
The episode on Aug. 2 at 8:00 p.m. is from September, 23, 1985. It features "The Colossal Jostle" that took place between the Eighth Wonder of the World Andre the Giant and another massive WWE Legend, King Kong Bundy. Although Andre the Giant passed away in1993, his name and his legacy are still associated with WWE.
Plus, the British Bulldogs take on the Hart Foundation. Both tag teams were relatively new to WWE at this point, and this match was one of the most memorable in their long history with one another.
Also, Terry Funk takes on WWE Hall of Famer Junk Yard Dog, as the heated rivalry between these two led to a tag match at WrestleMania 2.
The second hour features action from November 30, 1991, featuring what many at the time considered a dream match— Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair. Taking place after Survivor Series, where the "Nature Boy" cost Hogan the WWE Championship, this was the first match between these two WWE greats. Watch the Immortal Hulk Hogan in action against Flair before he takes on the Legend Killer Randy Orton at this year's SummerSlam on August 20. (Visit the SummerSlam webpage)
And, Bret Hart defends his Intercontinental Championship against The Mountie. The "Excellence of Execution" has held numerous WWE Championships in his career, and was an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006.
Plus, before he was HBK, the Showstopper or a member of D-Generation X, Shawn Michaels was one-half of the Rockers with Marty Jannetty. In this match against the Nasty Boys, which took place after Survivor Series when the Rockers lost a match because Jannetty accidentally kicked Michaels, the Rockers start to unravel. The problems between the Rockers eventually escalate, and this match is at the forefront of their breakup.
Tune in on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. for two hours of unforgettable WWE action. "WWE Presents Madison Square Garden Classics" airs every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Mark your calendars and set your TIVO.
