The Rock teams with director Shane Black to play Doc Savage
Following months of rumors and a few social media teases, The Rock has revealed that he and "Nice Guys" director Shane Black are teaming up to bring the world's first superhero to the big screen. The People's Champ revealed on Instagram that he will portray pulp icon Doc Savage in a film directed by Black.
Dubbed "The Man of Bronze," Doc Savage was one of the inspirations for Superman, predating the DC Comics' icon by five years. Savage is an action-adventure hero first featured in pulp magazines before his popularity transitioned him to radio, comic books, television and movies.
Savage is presented as the zenith of human ability with genius-level intellect, a photographic memory, peak mental and physical conditioning and strength, as well as skilled in various trades. Doc Savage hasn't been on the big screen since 1975, but we couldn't imagine anyone more perfect for the role in the 21st century than The Rock.
