“I am happy to report that after great deliberation and with the counsel of my family and friends, I have indeed decided to run for the office of Mayor in the 2019 race,” he said in a statement released on Twitter.
Booker T, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013, first hinted at his mayoral aspirations during his weekly radio broadcast on Houston’s SportsRadio 610. He further clarified his intentions in his Twitter statement, citing his resiliency and love for his hometown as his main motivation for seeking the Texas city’s top job.
“I look forward to having a dialogue with the voters of Houston, and if I am so privileged to serve,” he said, “I will fight for them as hard as I have fought for myself and my family over the last 30 years.”
