CHICAGO - All that glitters is not necessarily gold -- just ask John Morrison.
In front of a capacity crowd at the Allstate Arena, The Friday Night Delight managed to outshine The Gold Standard, Shelton Benjamin, emerging victorious against his nemesis. (PHOTOS)
A pair of impressive athletes, Morrison and Benjamin traded solid blows, with The Guru of Greatness going airborne on several occasions and wowing the Windy City. Despite distractions from Benjamin's ring partner, Charlie Haas, who hovered ringside, Morrison managed to focus his energy, escaping a pair of two-counts in order to regroup.
While Benjamin escaped a pair of two-counts himself, Morrison proved too dynamic. Uncorking his remarkable maneuver, Starship Pain, the former tag team champion finally dropped Benjamin for a hard-fought victory. (WATCH Morrison's post-match interview)
Morrison's win appears to be the latest chapter in the ongoing saga between these two. From the moment The Shaman of Sexy was drafted to SmackDown from ECW, Benjamin has been trying to harsh his winning vibe. On the night of Morrison's premiere at famed Madison Square Garden, the former United States Champion attempted to send the newcomer a message, but Morrison held his own in their match and notched the win.
The Gold Standard may have been slightly tarnished, but he was resolute in reclaiming his luster. On "WWE Superstars," he interfered in Morrison's match with Chris Jericho, costing the Shaman the victory. In subsequent weeks, Morrison had Benjamin's number, defeating him twice in the week leading up to Judgment Day.
As two of WWE's most exciting and athletic Superstars, it's unlikely that Morrison's victory at Judgment Day has put to rest the animosity between him and Benjamin. And while a continued rivalry will likely exact a toll from each of these dazzling Superstars, it is the WWE Universe that will undoubtedly be richer for it. (PHOTOS)
