Dolph Ziggler def. Kofi Kingston (New United States Champion)

WASHINGTON D.C. – In perhaps the most fitting city to win the United States Championship, Dolph Ziggler beat Kofi Kingston with his debilitating sleeper hold to strip him of his title. (PHOTOS)

But Ziggler didn’t do it alone.

Thanks to a nasty eye gouge from Ziggler’s business associate Vickie Guerrero, Ziggler took advantage of his dazed competitor to win the bout.
But before the final moments, the match could have gone to either Superstar. In a battle with multiple near falls, Kingston escaped Ziggler’s sleeper hold twice. And it looked as if it was lights out after Kingston blasted Ziggler with a wicked flying cross body.

With the win in our nation’s capital, Ziggler joins the ranks of prestigious past United States Champions including WWE Hall of Famers Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair (United States Championship title history).

No stranger to battling for championship glory, Kingston and Ziggler collided on several occasions for the Intercontinental Championship in 2010. Then following the 2011 WWE Draft, the two were reunited on Raw where their rivalry continued. Never being one to give up in the face of adversity, The Dreadlocked Dynamo will certainly be looking to put himself right back in the title hunt. Find out what might unfold between the two on the special “Power to the People” edition of Raw at 8/7 CT on USA Network.
