American Champion

Aug. 25, 1991

When Lex Luger vacated the U.S. Title in 1991, WCW held a tournament to determine its next champion. Sting faces “Stunning” Steve Austin in the finals at The Omni in Atlanta. Both competitors are exhausted from the excruciating tournament, but prove why they were in the finals to begin with. The match is a highlight of both Sting and Austin’s young careers, but in the end it is Sting who is victorious, capturing his first U.S. Championship.
