Sponsoring a child through World Vision

Hi Everyone, and Happy New Year!
Hope all of you had a great holiday season. I sure did, for numerous reasons. I was able to spend it with my friends and family and also did something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I sponsored a child!
Many of you are probably wondering what that means. Well, it's quite simple. I went to www.WorldVision.org and picked a child to sponsor until he grows up. My child's name is Fisher Munyaku. He is from Zambia, which is a country in Africa, and he is 6 years old. He lives with his parents, four brothers and two sisters and his parents struggle to provide for the family. My sponsorship will help him get medical care, have money for school and food, along with other basic needs. And it is only $35 a month!
I am sharing this with you because I was so excited when someone told me about World Vision, that I wanted to pass it along to you! Too often I feel that we get caught up with wanting more and more material things and don't realize that a small amount goes a long way in a country like Zambia. This experience has been so fulfilling for me, knowing that I have given a child in need a chance in this world. I think it's really cool too that I can keep in touch with Fisher by writing to him. I can't wait to get my first letter from him!!
The other cool thing World Vision offers is that in someone's name, you can donate a goat to a family in Haiti or Malawi! For example, for Christmas, in the name of two of my friends, I donated a goat for a family in Haiti which nourishes them with fresh milk, cheese and yogurt, and can offer a much-needed income boost by providing offspring and extra dairy products for sale at the market. It even provides fertilizer that can dramatically increase crop yields. My friends felt really good to know that in their name, a family in need was able to eat. And goats are not the only animal you can donate. World Vision offers many other animals. If you are interested, here is the link.
As I said, this experience has been incredible for me, and I wanted to share this great program in case any of you would like to participate.
