As rugged as they came, Butch Reed began wrestling professionally in the central states area in 1978. He became a major player in the Universal Wrestling Federation in the early 1980s, and is remembered there for his rivalries with “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and The Junkyard Dog.

Reed’s tenure in WWE began in late 1986, when he debuted, accompanied by his manager, Slick, and billed himself as “The Natural.” In WWE rings, the 260 pound native of Kansas City proved that he was a force to be reckoned with, as he entered into a series of battles in 1987 with then Intercontinental Champion Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, and The Magnificent Muraco. He moved on to WCW, where he competed from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Reed was best known in WCW for forming a tag team partnership with Ron Simmons, known as “Doom.”

Using a gorilla press slam as his signature move, pound for pound there was no one more tougher inside the squared circle than Butch Reed.
