Corey Graves to leave NXT commentary team, Nigel McGuinness named replacement

WWE commentator Corey Graves announced during the NXT TakeOver: San Antonio Pre-Show that he is stepping away from the NXT booth. Graves first joined the commentary team at NXT TakeOver: R Evolution on Dec. 11, 2014, after retiring from in-ring competition. Nigel McGuinness will take over Graves’ announcing duties on the Feb. 8 episode of NXT.

“NXT has provided me with countless opportunities and experience that are absolutely invaluable, but I’ve got a lot of responsibilities within the WWE Universe and I can’t do it all at once,” Graves said at the start of the NXT TakeOver Pre-Show.

Graves praised his longtime friend McGuinness, who debuted in WWE as an announcer for the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament on Jan. 14 and 15.

“I am leaving the NXT Universe in extremely capable hands: my friend Tom Phillips, who I’m incredibly thankful for, I’m leaving somebody to sit by his side that will do an incredibly fantastic job, I’m sure of it.”

Graves joined the Raw announce team after the Brand Extension, starting on the July 25 episode. He is also a commentator for 205 Live — every Tuesday at 10 p.m. on WWE Network — and the host of a weekly list video series on WWE.com and YouTube — every Friday at 10 a.m.
