Tonight on WWE Network, NXT fans witnessed not just the debut of a mysterious new Superstar, but also the surprise return of a well-established warrior, as Rhyno stormed into Full Sail University. Making his first appearance in a WWE ring in nearly a decade, The Man Beast demolished Elias Samson to a deafening reception, downing the overmatched youngster in short order with the Gore, Rhyno’s explosive variation of the spear.

Though the muscle-bound Detroit native may be unfamiliar to members of the NXT Universe who missed his path of destruction in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Rhyno’s NXT debut marks the addition of an experienced and highly feared competitor to NXT’s world-renowned roster.

A longtime associate of Christian and WWE Hall of Famer Edge, Rhyno first came to prominence in the original Extreme Championship Wrestling, where he thrilled the organization’s hardcore fan base by routinely leaping off ring aprons and driving opponents through tables. On Jan. 21, 2001, weeks before the legendary promotion folded, The Master of the Gore — who was already the ECW TV Champion — also claimed the ECW Heavyweight Title, becoming the final Superstar of the original brand to hold either championship.

Upon ECW’s closing, Rhyno brought his animalistic fury to WWE. Over the course of his WWE career, The Man Beast captured the United States and Hardcore Championships, and he famously sent Chris Jericho crashing through the SmackDown set with his piercing Gore.

Though it is unclear what led The Man Beast to NXT, now that Rhyno has made his impact felt inside the yellow ropes, what carnage awaits the Superstars of tomorrow?
