United States Champion Chris Benoit successfully defended his title by defeating the cocky MVP. Porter was impressive in his WrestleMania debut, as he was able to take Benoit out of his game, focusing his attacks on the champion’s arm and shoulder in an attempt to prevent the Crossface. In the end, the Rabid Wolverine used his experience to overcome the upstart MVP, taking to the skies and delivering a Flying Headbutt to retain his title.

After walking out of the ring still the United States Champion, Chris Benoit said, “MVP might be very vocal, and I have to give him credit for being great on the microphone, but tonight he bit off more than he could chew,” Benoit said. “MVP did have a bit of an upper hand early on, he works hard and has a great work ethic – but my experience prevailed. I have been in this business twenty years, and my victory shows that experience.”
