Underdog stories

Check back the week of March 13th to see who the WWE fans have voted the Top 5 Underdog stories of WrestleMania history. These announcements will also be made in WWE arenas with the No. 1 Upset being announced the day of WrestleMania 22.

Hogan beats Andre

Very rarely does the champion walk into any match as the underdog, but that's exacty what happened at WrestleMania III when Hulk Hogan defended his WWE Championship against the undefeated Andre the Giant. Not only was Hogan able to end Andre's unbeaten streak, but was also able to get the big man up and over for a body slam.

Honky tops the snake

Heading into WrestleMania III, Jake "The Snake" Roberts was one of the most-feared Superstars in WWE. Meanwhile, the Honky Tonk Man was a relative newcomer. In the end, it was Honky defeating Roberts. The Honky Tonk Man went on to gain the Intercontinental Championship soon after.

Four wins for Savage

Randy "Macho Man" Savage needed three wins to get into the finals of the WWE Championship Tournament, while his opponent Ted DiBiase needed only three (due to a bye in the third round). Macho Man put his exhaustion behind him, though, and eventually landed his top rope elbow for the win and the WWE Championship.

Hogan shocks Yokozuna

Bret Hart defended the WWE Championship against Yokozuna in the main event of WrestleMania IX. But it was Hulk Hogan that walked away with the title. In a shocking turn of events, Mr. Fuji challenged the Hulkster to a match for Yokozuna's newly-won title. In the end, it was Hogan coming away with the win and the gold.

Demolition wrecked

Heading into WrestleMania VII, nobody knew who Tenryu & Kitao were. That said, nobody thought they could actually beat the mighty Demolition. But in a match that lasted less than five minutes, Tenryu pinned Smash to shock the sports-entertainment world.

Virgil beats DiBiase

For years, Ted DiBiase disrespeted Virgil at every turn. Finally, Virgil had enough and challenge the Million Dollar Man to a match at WrestleMania VII. In one of the brightest moments of his career, Virgil was able to humilate DiBiase, beating him by countout.

Owen beats Bret

For years, Owen Hart claimed he was living in the shadow of his brother Bret. At WrestleMania X, Owen rocketed out from behind his brother's shadow when he defeated him in the opening match of the show.

L.T. tackles Bam Bam

Few people actually win their very first professional match. Former New York Giant Lawrence Taylor was one of the few when he beat Bam Bam Bigelow in the main event of WrestleMania XI.

Benoit wins world championship

Both Triple H and Shawn Michaels have main evented WrestleManias in the past. Chris Benoit, on the other hand, was a stranger to the main stage heading into WrestleMania XX. The Rabid Wolverine's inexperience, however, didn't hinder him at all, as he eventually forced The Game to tap out to the Cripper Crossface.

Cena defeats Big Show

Over the past year, John Cena has proved to be one of the best in the business. But heading into WrestleMania XX, few realized his true greatness. By the time WrestleMania XX was over, however, the Chain Gang was on a roll with the United States Championship around Cena's waist.
