Bobby "The Brain" Heenan recalls his favorite WrestleMania Moment
“I have two. Foremost, I have to think of the first one, especially the main event (Hulk Hogan & Mr. T with Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka vs. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff with Cowboy Bob Orton). Muhammad Ali was the referee, you had Billy Martin doing the ring announcing, Liberace & The Rockettes were there…I was thinking to myself that this isn’t wrestling, it’s vaudeville, and we’re dead. But then I looked out there and saw all the celebrities just in attendance, the Cyndi Laupers and Dick Clarks and Billy Crystals of the world, and I thought that Vince may be on to something. That night, I managed Big John Studd in a $15,000 Body Slam Challenge against Andre the Giant. Andre slammed Studd and then grabbed the bag of money from me. He stuck those big paws in the bag and started tossing money to the crowd. I finally got it away from him, but I was nervous. I didn’t want to try to take that bag away from him because I didn’t have the number for the local SWAT team or anything to help me out.
My other favorite moment has to be being part of the main event of WrestleMania III. This time I was managing Andre against Hulk Hogan, and it was the biggest match in wrestling history. Just being there was amazing, in front of so many people, it will always be amazing. WrestleMania is like the Super Bowl or the Daytona 500, it’s a big party.”
