Tonight, WWE makes its second visit to Charlotte, North Carolina’s Charlotte Bobcats Arena for Vengeance. The first time WWE came to the Uptown Arena (as it’s locally known) was late January 2006 when Charlotte legend Ric Flair teamed with John Cena to take on Edge & Chris Masters. Flair & Cena were victorious, as Cena finished the match by slapping the STFU on Masters for the win.

It was just a couple of weeks ago that Ric Flair confronted Mick Foley on RAW, prompting a war of words between the two arguing over the merits of hardcore wrestling and Mick Foley’s professional wrestling legacy. Two weeks ago at ECW One Night Stand, Edge basically helped Rob Van Dam become WWE Champion by spearing John Cena through a table. RVD then took the gold to the premiere of ECW on Sci Fi, where he rechristened it the ECW World Championship. This Sunday, however, Edge has the opportunity to bring that gold back to RAW when he faces RVD at Vengeance.

This Sunday at Vengeance, John Cena seems to be heading into the proverbial lions’ den. Not only does he have to take on ECW’s suicidal, homicidal, genocidal maniac Sabu, but he has to do it in a hostile situation: an Extreme Lumberjack Match.

There’s also plenty of bad blood throughout the rest of the pay-per-view as John Cena takes the fight to ECW in an Extreme Lumber Jack Match, Edge vies for Rob Van Dam’s WWE Championship and Ric Flair and Mick Foley go 2 out of 3 Falls in a match that has history dating back to Foley’s days in WCW. So, with such a combustible situation waiting to happen, it’s only fitting that Vengeance’s theme is a song called Victim by Eighteen Visions.

The founding fathers of D-Generation X, Shawn Michaels and Triple H split apart during the Attitude era, but after watching the Vengeance press conference, it almost seemed as if they never broke up. The defiant duo never skipped a beat and was up to their same old sophomoric hijinx, wreaking havoc on the entire press conference.
