SmackDown Five-Point Preview: July 13, 2012

Is the WWE Universe ready for Friday Night “ZackDown”?

The Great American Bash 20-Man Battle Royal: SmackDown, July 6, 2012

20 WWE Superstars compete in The Great American Bash Battle Royal where the winner will be named the Interim General Manager for next week's SmackDown.

Woo Woo Woo! By virtue of his win in the 20-Man Battle Royal at SuperSmackDown LIVE: The Great American Bash, Zack Ryder will take the reins of the best show on Friday night as the Interim General Manager. The Long Island Iced-Z now finds himself in the unique position of being an active Superstar and SmackDown’s power broker at the same time.

Could Ryder make the fist bump the official salute of SmackDown? Will the ultimate Broski leave his mark on the blue brand by bringing back the show’s iconic fist set? However he performs his duties at the Pepsi Center in Denver, you know it will be designed by an Interim GM who is looking to turn “ZackDown” into the party of the year.

Will Del Rio drive Sheamus over the edge?

Alberto Del Rio slams the hood of his car on World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus' full body: SmackDown, July 6, 2012

Alberto Del Rio viciously uses the hood of his car as a weapon to attack World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus.

World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus showed no ill effects in his dominating performance against Jack Swagger on Raw. ( WATCH | PHOTOS) However, it wasn’t The All-American American who pummeled The Celtic Warrior with the hood of a vintage Rolls-Royce at SuperSmackDown LIVE: The Great American Bash.

Alberto Del Rio boasted about his attack against The Great White on Raw SuperShow, but will he attempt another one on the final SmackDown before Money in the Bank? Will Sheamus be able to handle his business in the ring if he needs to keep looking over his shoulder for The Mexican Aristocrat?

Who needs to show dominance before Money in the Bank?

Sin Cara vs. Heath Slater - World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Raw, July 9, 2012

Heath Slater looks to make a winning streak and advance into the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship Contract.

With Sin Cara rounding out the field in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Heavyweight Championship Contract, the competition should be fierce at the upcoming pay-per-view for those aspiring to grab the guaranteed title opportunity that’s contained within the symbolic briefcase. SmackDown now represents the last chance for the match participants to make a statement and send a message to their MITB opponents that they’re ready to climb the ladder to success.

Which Superstars will the Friday night fights favor? Does Intercontinental Champion Christian need to leave SmackDown on a high note after coming up short in tag team action on Raw? What will Cody Rhodes do to prove he truly belongs in the contender’s clash after needing two opportunities to qualify? Could Dolph Ziggler, United States Champion Santino Marella or Damien Sandow carry momentum from a strong showing on SmackDown into making them the favorites at Money in the Bank?

Will anyone make a final “Bank” statement?

John Cena & Kane vs. Big Show & Chris Jericho: Raw, July 9, 2012

Opponents at Money in the Bank 2012 face off in a Tag Team Match.

When the WWE Universe last saw the participants of the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE Championship Contract in action, they saw only one Superstar standing above the rest on Raw. Kane writhed on the ring apron. Chris Jericho found himself sandwiched between the legs of a ladder. Big Show recovered on the ringside floor from being hit with a ladder.

And there was John Cena, looking as confident as ever.

Will any of the other match combatants look for a confidence boost on SmackDown? After their tenuous partnership fell apart on Raw, could Big Show or Chris Jericho lash out to prove they’re ready to compete at the upcoming pay-per-view? Does Kane need to show that the monster within is alive and well? Cena may be ready for Money in the Bank, but it remains to be seen who of the other bout participants can stop his ascension (figuratively and literally) on Sunday.

Will Tyler Reks be the first to derail Ryback?

Ryback vs. Curt Hawkins: SmackDown, July 6, 2012

Ryback faces a tougher opponent this week in Curt Hawkins at The Great American Bash.

Thanks to the flip of a coin, Tyler Reks found himself safe from the rampage of Ryback last week on SuperSmackDown LIVE: The Great American Bash. Instead, Reks watched from ringside as the undefeated menace thoroughly dominated Curt Hawkins in singles competition.

Before watching his buddy be fed to the monster, Reks claimed he could beat Ryback because of his size and strength. Does he have the courage of his convictions to step into the squared circle against the intimidating beast? And did he see anything in Hawkins’ efforts that may have revealed a weakness in Ryback’s potent arsenal?
