In a relatively short time in WWE, the Major Brothers have shown that they are ready to step up to the next level of SmackDown’s tag team division. On SmackDown last Friday, Brett & Brian won a 10-Man Battle Royal to earn their very first opportunity at tag gold, then delivered a tremendous – though losing effort – against the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, Matt Hardy & MVP.

So when word was released that The Phenom would face The Great Khali in a No Holds Barred Match this week on SmackDown, many – including color commentator JBL – wondered why The Deadman would jeopardize his chance at the gold.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – On SmackDown Friday night, Brett & Brian Major prevailed in a spectacular 10-Man Battle Royal, earning a title opportunity that same night against WWE Tag Team Champions Matt Hardy & MVP. However, while blood may be thicker than water and the brothers put forth a tremendous effort in the tag contest, they’d ultimately fall short of defeating the most functional dysfunctional tag team in WWE.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Finlay, hell-bent on avenging his Cyber Sunday loss to Rey Mysterio, had been claiming that the masked Superstar’s weakness and compassion made him a loser, and that he would capitalize on his supposed fear of the Irishman. All of these points remain highly debatable even after the two squared off on SmackDown Friday night. Unfortunately for Mysterio, Finlay left him in no condition to dispute them, or the outcome of their match.

In any sport, and especially in WWE, injury often presents an opportunity for someone to step up and shine in the spotlight…but not usually when it comes to management. Then again, anything can happen in WWE, and at this point, after having shown her mettle as Acting SmackDown General Manager over the last month-plus, Vickie Guerrero seems to be on the road to sending Theodore Long’s name into the annals next to famed New York Yankee Wally Pipp’s.
