Arena Report - American Bank Center

Tonight the Corpus Christi fans will watch the Superstars of SmackDown take center stage at the American Bank Center. With just two days left before the much anticipated Great American Bash, the Superstars are anxious to have their opponents compete one last time in hopes of possibly hindering their performance this Sunday.

On Oct. 10, 2005, just one week after WWE's Homecoming on the USA Network, RAW traveled to Corpus Christi where Stone Cold Steve Austin applied his signature Stunner to each member of the McMahon family. Irate, Mr. McMahon was out to place blame and have someone fired. He began his retribution by calling all three announcers, Jonathan Coachman, Jerry "The King" Lawler and Jim Ross, to stand with him in the ring and apologize for their cowardly behavior by not rescuing any of the McMahons from Stone Cold's annihilation. When J.R. only apologized on behalf of not helping Linda McMahon, Stephanie came down and showed her displeasure in his remorse with a slap across the face. When Linda entered, all thought she was there save J.R. from the unjust attack by Mr. McMahon and Stephanie. But, in a surprise twist, Linda turned on J.R. and fired him from RAW with a swift kick below the belt.

Nov. 11, 2004, was the last time the Superstars of SmackDown met at The American Bank Center to settle their rivalries. The fans were treated to a tag team match of Eddie Guerrero & Rob Van Dam vs. Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak, which ended with Carlito and Jesus being ejected from ringside and Eddie & RVD finishing off their opponents with an amazing double frog-splash. Later on, during the main event match between Big Show and Kurt Angle, the Wrestling Machine had his posse of Jindrak, Reigns, Carlito and Jesus come out and help him defeat the 500-pound monster. Guerrero and RVD ran out to assist Big Show, but unlike their previous triumph, this heroic act left them battered beside the ring causing Angle to put Big Show in an ankle lock while Jindrak and Reigns placed submission moves on his arms.

The American Bank Center, or ABC as the locals have dubbed it, is a 8,156-seat multi-purpose arena. It was renovated from the city's old Bayfront Convention Center and was expanded to house the Corpus Christi Rayz ice hockey team, Corpus Christi Hammerheads indoor football team and the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islanders men's and women's basketball teams. The ABC also features the Selena Auditorium, named after the late Tejano star, Selena Quintanilla Perez, who was gunned down by her fan club manager in the early stages of her career at a hotel in Corpus Christi.

With The Great American Bash only two days away and with Mark Henry injured and unable to compete, who will Batista take on as his opponent? Tune into SmackDown tonight at 8/7 CT on UPN to find out.
