A great Long night for SmackDown

LAREDO, Texas – An injured Edge, forced to surrender the World Heavyweight Championship. The Great Khali, winning the title in an unbelievable Battle Royal. Batista and Kane, doing battle in an astonishing No. 1 Contender’s contest. Truly, Friday’s SmackDown was an evening of epic proportions, made possible by the man who had his biggest night as General Manager, Theodore Long.

LAREDO, Texas – With all apologies to Lionel Richie for modifying the title of one of his greatest hits above…it really was that kind of night on Friday Night SmackDown. In the course of two hours, our fans saw Edge relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship, The Great Khali win it in a Battle Royal, and perhaps the most epic Triple Threat Match in WWE history made for The Great American Bash.

LAREDO, Texas – Winning a 20-Man Battle Royal that starred the best the Friday night brand has to offer, The Great Khali left the Laredo Entertainment Center with his gargantuan paws gripping the World Heavyweight Championship. With the crowning of the most monstrous World Champion ever, SmackDown’s Superstars came to the stark realization that if they ever wish to climb the mountain toward championship gold, they’ll need to scale the tallest peak in sports-entertainment history.

Just more than two years ago, the World Heavyweight Championship came to SmackDown when then-champion Batista was selected in the 2005 Draft Lottery. As the richest prize in sports-entertainment, the World Heavyweight Championship instantly became the object of desire of the SmackDown Superstars. But since becoming the (pun intended) gold standard on Friday nights, the title has seemingly become a curse to anyone who holds it.

LAREDO, Texas – To say it was a huge night for The Great Khali is the biggest of understatements. After stripping an injured Edge of his World Heavyweight Championship, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long ordered a 20-Man Battle Royal to determine the successor to the gold. The 7-foot-3 colossus not only proved to our fans in the Laredo Entertainment Center that he was more than up for the supersized task, he also made a monstrous impact on the entire SmackDown roster.
