Arena Report - Rabobank Arena
WWE makes its long awaited return to Bakersfield tonight for a special edition of SmackDown. Award winning recording artists Three 6 Mafia will take the stage at the Rabobank Arena to play a live rendition of their track from Wreckless Intent, "Some Bodies Gonna Get It" for SmackDown Superstar Mark Henry.
WWE's last visit to the Rabobank Arena was in February 2004 for a live broadcast of RAW. On that night, Booker T & Rob Van Dam defeated Evolution's Ric Flair & Batista for the World Tag Team Championship. Later, the Bakersfield fans were treated to a classic main event as Shawn Michaels defeated Chris Benoit with Sweet Chin Music.
SmackDown's last visit to the arena was in February '03. On a jam-packed show, the fans were treated to a special Bra and Panties match in which Torrie Wilson defeated Dawn Marie. Also on the show, a major upset saw Shelton Benjamin defeat WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero in singles action. Later, Brock Lesnar defeated newcomer John Cena with an F5.
SmackDown also visited the arena in December ‘01. That show may be best remembered for a fight that didn't take place in the arena. Stone Cold Steve Austin and Booker T brawled through a local Bakersfield supermarket, destroying the produce section and the dairy along the way. In action that actually occurred within the confines of the ring, JBL defeated Matt Hardy, and later in the main event, Rob Van Dam & The Rock defeated Chris Jericho & Undertaker.
The Rabobank Arena, formerly known as the Bakersfield Centennial Garden opened in 1998 with a special performance by comedian Bill Cosby. The 10,000 seat arena is the home of the Bakersfield Blitz of the Arena Football League and the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL.
