SmackDown Five-Point Preview: July 27, 2012

Who will win the Fatal 4-Way World Title No. 1 Contender’s Match?

Tonight, four former World Champions — Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, Daniel Bryan and Kane — will battle in a Fatal 4-Way to determine who has the right to challenge World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus. ( WATCH FATAL 4-WAY PLAYLIST)

The fast-paced style of Mysterio has always been suited ideally for the Fatal 4-Way Match. In addition, the contest will surely be extremely personal for him. Since his return from injury on the July 16 edition of Raw, The Ultimate Underdog has kept one eye locked on the Superstar who put him out of action, Alberto Del Rio. Surely, he will be hungry for additional retribution.

The Mexican Aristocrat certainly will be concerned by the combined threat that both his masked adversary and his other cunning opponents present. Nevertheless, his distinct advantage lies in his ruthless pursuit of his destiny. Without a doubt, he will do whatever it takes to capture, once again, an opportunity to face Sheamus.

Kane thrives on mayhem, plain and simple. What that means is that he is specifically designed for the kind of out-of-control circumstances that the Fatal 4-Way main event will bring into play. And after being reunited with his Brother in Destruction, The Undertaker, on Monday's Raw 1,000, the momentum could very well carry him to victory.

Bryan had an incredible match with The Big Red Monster one week ago on SmackDown. But, his world has turned completely upside-down since then. Although he has all the skill in the world and is as thirsty as any of his opponents to get another chance at the World Title, is he mentally set? His now-former fiancée, the new General Manager of Raw AJ, left him at the altar. Now, it seems that she holds his fate in her hands come Monday night. Will Bryan be able to get by this turmoil and get back to glory?

When will Dolph Ziggler cash in?

At the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, on the same night that The Showoff captured the highly coveted contract that earned him an opportunity at the World Heavyweight Championship any time he wanted in the coming year, he tried to cash it in. However, his plans come to a crashing halt when World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus attacked him before the bell could ring.

Then, last Friday on SmackDown, he looked to cash it in a second time. But, his efforts were thwarted by Rey Mysterio’s 619 and another Brogue Kick by The Great White.

It is clear that Ziggler has been inching to seize his opportunity as fast as possible and finally prove his elite status. However, there is a chance that his last two failures could discourage the bleach blond Superstar from cashing in any time soon. Perhaps, John Cena’s failure to cash in his own contract against WWE Champion CM Punk on Monday could also make him put on the brakes.

That being said, it is also possible that Ziggler, with his unrelenting ambition, will continue his aggressive course until he either claims the top of the mountain or plummets in defeat.

Can Rhodes catch The Great White?

Sheamus & Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler & Alberto Del Rio: SmackDown, July 20, 2012

World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus & Rey Mysterio team up against the duo of Alberto Del Rio & Dolph Ziggler in the main event of SmackDown.

Cody Rhodes has proven himself to be a very dangerous competitor, with a relentless drive to match his skill. He has a tremendous arsenal — including the devastating Disaster Kick and the Cross Rhodes — as well as a destructive attitude and unending confidence.

But, whether that is enough to take down World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus remains to be seen. The Celtic Warrior continues to rip through the competition week after week, a seemingly unstoppable force of nature. So, the danger comes down to this: If Rhodes gets rattled for one second and loses focus, he could taste the sole of the Irish Champion’s boot.

What is Christian’s next move?

Christian vs. The Miz - Intercontinental Championship Match: Raw, July 23, 2012

With WWE Hall of Famer Bret "Hit Man" Hart as the guest ring announcer, Christian defends his Intercontinental Championship against The Miz.

On Raw 1,000, Christian lost the Intercontinental Title to The Miz. Back when Captain Charisma captured the title, his predecessor, Cody Rhodes, took weeks before invoking his rematch for the illustrious title — perhaps trying to get inside the head of the new titleholder.

Will Christian choose the same strategy before asking for his rematch for the championship gold? Or will he call for an immediate rematch? Moreover, considering his desire to follow the path of his best friend Edge, could he decide to forgo Miz and look toward another title altogether?

Which up-and-comer will step up?

DX reunites on Raw's 1,000th episode: Raw, July 23, 2012

DX is one of the most popular and controversial groups in WWE history and they reunite for Raw's 1,000th episode.

The 1,000th episode of Raw was jam-packed with the WWE Legends, all of whom helped to make Raw the incredible powerhouse it has become over the years. Their very presence, no doubt, inspired the entire WWE locker room. On the other hand, their established dominance will certainly put the pressure on up-and-coming Superstars to make some noise.

During Raw 1,000, Damien Sandow was taken down by a reunited D-Generation X. Considering the aggression that the self-proclaimed “Intellectual Savior of the Unwashed Masses” has demonstrated up to that point, his reaction to Monday’s attack could prove … enlightening.

Week in and week out, Ryback has dominated the competition. Although it’s hard to imagine him growing anymore intense, it is still doubtful that there are Superstars lining up to find out first hand.

With Aksana at his side, the brutal Antonio Cesaro has made his mark just about every time he has stepped in the ring. However, it’s possible that the limited amount of times he’s competed has prevented him from truly establishing himself. A true test may come tonight when he faces United States Champion Santino Marella.
