In what could be referred to as an "Adamle Original," Raw's new General Manager Mike Adamle made a match-up that would have a direct effect on SummerSlam no matter the result — pitting World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match against JBL & Chris Jericho.

In the end, JBL got the pinfall victory over Punk and, as according to the stipulations put in place by Adamle, JBL earned himself a one-on-one World Heavyweight Championship opportunity against the Straightedge Superstar at SummerSlam.
