Recently on Raw, Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix's rivalry took a more amorous turn, when a series of reversals in the ring turned into an impromptu make-out session between the two Superstars. Both The Glamazon and the Italian Superstar (who hosts WWE.com's "Santino's Casa," and has a Soccer T-shirt that's available now at WWE Shop!) appeared shocked and a little disgusted at their dalliance, though there's no denying that there's some level of attraction there.

It's not uncommon for the spark of romance to ignite between two enemies or rivals - sometimes it can even grow into something more long-term. To illustrate the point, we've assembled a list of some of our favorite examples of people who've struggled against one another only to begin struggling with each other.

Batman & Catwoman

He's a caped crusader that patrols the dark streets of Gotham for criminals. She's a catburglar that patrols the dark streets of Gotham for plunder. They're both in incredible shape and hop around in impossibly tight spandex. What did you think was going to happen? Though she has a distinctly opposing modus operandi from the Dark Knight, Batman often finds himself with his arms wrapped tightly around Selina Kyle's alter ego - sometimes for business and at other times for pleasure. Tsk, tsk, what would Alfred say?

Maddie Hayes & David Addison

Long before HDTV, there was a little show called Moonlighting, and since there was no DVR you had to go home and watch it at the time it came on, or rely on your Betamax to record it for you. But people watched the show in droves anyway, largely because of the chemistry between David Addison (Bruce Willis) and Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd). Hayes owned a detective agency staffed by the carefree Addison, and that simple set-up sent the two through three seasons of palpable sexual tension that only subsided when they consummated their relationship and the series consequently jumped the shark.

Bulma & Vegeta

It's a story that's as old as time itself: Animalistic alien warrior arrives on Earth to conquer it, battles the Earth's heroes, unites with them to combat some larger evil, then afterward settles down with one of the heroes to start a family. Vegeta is a Saiyan, hailing from a planet also known as Vegeta (don't ask), and was originally the cruel, sadistic, arrogant villain of the Dragonball Z series. Eventually, he calmed down enough to start a romantic relationship with Bulma, who previously despised him. He went on to father son Trunks and daughter Bra (again, don't ask), but would always remain sort of a jerk with great hair.

Mary Matalin & James Carville

The Ragin' Cajun James Carville has been a scourge to conservatives since acting as the lead strategist for Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign. Similarly, Mary Matalin draws ire from liberal camps for her work as a political consultant to the likes of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. But as the saying goes, "politics makes strange bedfellows," borne out through the two's marriage and family. Though they've staffed opposing political campaigns in the past, they try not to talk politics at home. We just wouldn't want to be there if someone brings up the economy. Or healthcare. Or foreign policy. Or ...

Miss Piggy & Kermit

It's not easy bein' green, just ask Kermit the Frog, who has put up with the overzealous advances of the rubenesque Miss Piggy for more than 30 years - and you thought your parents had it bad! Kermit rose to prominence as the stage manager for The Muppet Show, where he had to wrangle the rest of the muppets into putting on a show each week. Miss Piggy was more forceful than any of the others however, forcing Kermit to fend off her relentless advances. Though Kermit is often ambivalent toward Miss Piggy's overtures to romance, it masks a genuine affection for the bombastic swine.

Athena & Helo

Like a futuristic Romeo and Juliet, Athena and Helo of Battlestar Galactica attempt to make a go of a relationship despite the fact that their two peoples are at war. Helo is a human from the planet Caprica, which makes it tough to maintain a long-term relationship with Athena, who just so happens to be of the race of robots that completely wiped out human society except for a handful of survivors. Whoops! Though these two crazy kids believe that love can conquer all, they have to deal with all the issues that accompany dating someone whose race, you know, committed genocide against your entire species. Whoops x 2!

Buffy & Spike

Though the television show was called Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for much of it's run, it felt like it could have been more accurately named Buffy the Vampire Boffer. Spike wasn't the first vampire Buffy Summers shacked up with (that honor would go to the profoundly dreamy Angel), but their relationship grew out of being mortal enemies, and even saw them "playing rough" in the course of their liaisons. Though their relationship began as something sordid, Spike eventually grew to love Buffy, even fighting to have his soul restored so he can be the man that Buffy deserves. *Sniff* Maybe Spike is the dreamy one...

Lord Zedd & Rita Repulsa

An Empress of Evil and an Emperor of Evil - sounds like a match made in heav-err ... hell, right? Rita was the first villain to ever face the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and was the most dastardly foe they faced until the appearance of Lord Zedd. Zedd showed up on the scene and out-eviled Rita, placing her in a space dumpster (seriously) and blasting her off into space. Eventually, Rita escaped and hit Zedd with a potion that caused him to fall in love with her. The two married and set off on a quest to destroy the Power Rangers together. And if that's not a metaphor for love in this modern age, we don't know what is.
