Is Brock Lesnar The Authority’s new chosen one?

Brock Lesnar is revealed as Seth Rollins' next challenger: Raw, June 15, 2015

The Authority reveals their choice to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Battleground.

Oh, how quickly things can change in the WWE Universe. Remember when Seth Rollins would walk around WWE flanked by a collection of Authority members? Well, the conceited WWE World Heavyweight Champion was left all alone in the ring on Raw Monday night to stare in the face of his new challenger: The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar. So is Rollins still The Authority’s “chosen one”?

There are plenty of questions that need to be answered following a Raw that saw Triple H & Stephanie McMahon reinstate Lesnar from his indefinite suspension while granting him a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match against The Architect at WWE Battleground on Sunday, July 19. Does this mean The Beast Incarnate is The Authority’s new golden boy … or shall we say golden beast? Common sense might say that if those in charge wanted to keep the WWE World Heavyweight Championship around Rollins’ waist, they wouldn’t put him in a match against the most dominating Superstar in recent memory.

There’s enough history between The Anomaly, his outspoken advocate Paul Heyman and The Authority to suggest a rekindling alliance isn’t out of the question. Let’s not forget, it was The King of Kings and the Billionaire Princess who resembled proud parents after SummerSlam 2014, when they presented a brand-new WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Lesnar. On the post-Money in the Bank Raw, Heyman’s handshake with Triple H and Stephanie clearly signaled some sort of newfound relationship between these former allies. Has The Authority decided to put their faith back into the mammoth hands of The Beast? Or is this simply just a case of doing what’s best for business? The one thing we can probably all agree on is that Brock Lesnar being the No 1. Contender is what’s best for business.

Poll: Is The Authority setting Seth Rollins up to lose his title?

There’s also the possibility that WWE’s most powerful couple isn’t actually looking for a new “chosen one,” but rather want to test their current choice. Triple H said as much Monday night, just moments before introducing Lesnar. However, there’s a reason they call Triple H “The Cerebral Assassin.” The 13-time World Champion knows what he wants and he knows how to get it, even if that means playing a few mind games. The question is; does he want Seth Rollins or Brock Lesnar as the “Face of WWE”?

If The Authority really is done supporting the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, he has nobody to blame but himself. It was Rollins, after all, who repeatedly boasted that he got to where he was on his own. His arrogance finally wore thin on J&J Security and Corporate Kane, and it seemed to do the same to Triple H and Stephanie. But have WWE’s principal owners completely given up on the company’s self-proclaimed “Future”?

Only The Authority truly knows who they want as the “Face of WWE.” You can bet that whoever their choice is, they will do their best to make sure that Superstar walks out of WWE Battleground with the WWE World Heavyweight Title around his waist.
