Is Kevin Owens the toughest opponent John Cena has faced in years?

At WWE Elimination Chamber, United States Champion John Cena will have a whole new opponent in NXT Champion Kevin Owens. At first glance, this may seem like just another match for the veteran champion. But under the surface, could this new challenge from the up-and-coming titleholder prove to be The Champ’s toughest opponent in years?

The leader of the Cenation has faced many incredible adversaries, day in and day out, and, like him or hate him, no one can deny that Cena is a fighting champion. With Owens, though, he’s clearly facing something completely different. First and foremost, Owens utilizes an offense that many competitors do not attempt — the crown jewel of which is the earth-shattering Pop-up Powerbomb. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

No one can deny the tough-as-nails competitor’s unrelenting hunger to rise quickly — a determination demonstrated when he won the NXT Title just one month to the day of his NXT debut. It was also seen in the bold way he stepped up to John Cena on Monday Night Raw. He displayed guts reminiscent of the young, unknown John Cena who stood face-to-face with Kurt Angle on the top of his game and gave him the fight of a lifetime. If that is any indication, Cena is in for a true battle at the upcoming WWE Network event.

Owens says what he thinks, all of which indicates a strong confidence in both himself and his own ability. Moreover, he does not seem to be out for fame for fame’s sake. He clearly has a deep love of the squared circle that will only fuel his passion further. Without a doubt, others see this too, first and foremost being Triple H and The Authority. It was, after all, WWE’s COO who granted Owens his match against Cena in the first place.

WWE Universe, Kevin Owens is not intimidated. Kevin Owens has the ability. Kevin Owens is coming for John Cena, and the ring may never be the same again. Don’t miss WWE Elimination Chamber, LIVE on the award-winning WWE Network, Sunday May, 31 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
