The Second City Saint's reign as champion hit an unexpected road block this month when Punk underwent knee surgery just weeks before WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs, preventing him from defending the title at the prestigious event. While Punk convalesces, John Cena has officially commented on the champion's reign only one day after being surpassed.

"Injured or healthy, today @CMPunk is the longest reigning @WWE champ in modern era, it would be hypocritical not to acknowledge + respect it," Cena wrote. "Sometimes luck is as valuable as skill, but the record books will not say it was a 'lucky 381 and counting', it'll just say 381, + counting."

"I do wish @CMPunk a speedy full recovery," Cena concluded. "He will need EVERYTHING he has to even step into a ring with @TheRock. I know from experience."
