Chris Jericho addresses rumors of his departure from WWE and his plans for the future: WWE.com Exclusive â€" May 23, 2012

Is there any WWE Superstar who’s the subject of more Internet rumors than Chris Jericho?

Recently, the Internet buzz was that Jericho was leaving WWE after last Sunday’s WWE Over the Limit. A WWE.com article even seemed to suggest that Jericho should call it a career in WWE based on his lack of success in big matches since his return earlier this year.

Well, Over the Limit is in the books, and while Jericho did not achieve his goal of unseating World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus in the Fatal 4-Way Match, it’s apparent that reports of Jericho’s departure have been greatly exaggerated.

For anyone who’s paid attention to Jericho’s career, it should also be clear Jericho is at his most dangerous when he faces adversity.

Here are three examples that prove that point:

Chris Jericho becomes the first Undisputed WWE Champion

Jericho had no momentum and was the obvious longshot heading into Vengeance 2001, where a mini-tournament between Jericho, WWE Champion “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, WCW Champion The Rock and Kurt Angle was held to merge the titles. In the two weeks prior to the Dec. 9, 2001, event, Jericho submitted to The Rock’s Sharpshooter in a Tag Team Match and also suffered pinfall losses to The Rock and Austin in singles matches. At Vengeance, however, Jericho defeated both The Rock and Austin in the same night to claim both championships and make history. Jericho successfully defended his Undisputed Championship against The People’s Champion and “Stone Cold” at subsequent pay-per-views and went on to headline WrestleMania X8.

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho: Unforgiven 2008 - Unsanctioned Match

Unsatisfied with the vicious beating he's delivered, Shawn Michaels takes flight with an elbow drop onto the announce table to further punish Chris Jericho at Unforgiven on September 7, 2008.

At the Unforgiven pay-per-view on Sept. 7, 2008, Jericho suffered perhaps the worst beating of his career at the hands of Shawn Michaels in an unsanctioned, grudge match between the two arch rivals. The match came to a merciful conclusion when the referee awarded it to Michaels because Jericho was brutalized so badly that he could not defend himself. It seemed likely that Y2J would need some time off to recuperate from the thrashing, but he actually returned at the end of the night as a surprise entrant in the World Heavyweight Championship Scramble Match. Jericho then shocked everyone by outlasting Batista, Kane, JBL and Rey Mysterio to win the title. ( WATCH)

Chris Jericho beats the system ... and Dean Malenko

Is Chris Jericho more dangerous than ever before?

Jericho was scheduled to defend his WCW Cruiserweight Title against the winner of a battle royal at WCW’s Slamboree on May 17, 1998. Ciclope emerged victorious, but the supposed luchador unmasked, revealing he was actually Jericho’s nemesis, Dean Malenko. Malenko went on to defeat a stunned Jericho for the title, causing Jericho to claim he was the victim of a conspiracy. He argued that the title change should be overturned because Malenko was not officially listed as a competitor in the battle royal. While Jericho’s pleas for justice came off as whiny and pathetic, he actually did find a legal loophole that caused WCW to strip Malenko of the championship. The following month at The Great American Bash, Jericho got the last laugh when he defeated Malenko to regain the championship.
