Preview:WWE Champion Triple H vs. Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing Match
The longstanding tug-of-war between Triple H and Randy Orton over the WWE Championship continues to rage, with both men preparing to dig in their heels and battle at One Night Stand in a Last Man Standing Match.
It’s a format in which Orton has excelled. It was a cold night in October at No Mercy when Mr. McMahon awarded the title to the Legend Killer after John Cena suffered a torn pectoral injury. That evening, Triple H defeated Orton to capture the title, but Mr. McMahon would have none of it. He pitted The Game in a Title Match against Umaga, which Triple H barely survived. The Chairman then arranged a Last Man Standing Title Match against Orton, in which Triple H was unable to overcome his exhaustion and was forced to relinquish the gold. Since then, the animosity between these two has only etched itself deeper. During WrestleMania XXIV, the then-Champion Orton eked out a narrow victory in a Triple Threat Match against The Game and John Cena. The Legend Killer’s cunning, however, could not save him last month at Backlash when Triple H effectively ended the “Age of Orton,” defeating JBL, Cena and Orton in a Fatal Four Way Elimination Match. Two weeks before One Night Stand, JBL & Orton defeated Cena & Triple H in a Tag Team Match to win the right to determine the stipulations to their respective matches at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event.
At One Night Stand, Orton will utilize his cunning and stamina in an attempt to recapture that which he covets most, while Triple H channels his power to fend off the attacks of a relentless foe. As their tug-of-war continues, who will remain the Last Man Standing?
