Alltel Arena - Little Rock, AK

During No Mercy in 2002 at the Alltel Arena, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit defeated Rey Mysterio and Edge to win the first WWE Tag Team Championship. In a Hell in a Cell Match, Brock Lesnar defeated Undertaker to retain the WWE Championship. While no other WWE pay-per-views have been at the Alltel Arena, it has played host to a live SmackDown show.

The arena, which is across the Arkansas River from downtown Little Rock, opened in 1999. National Basketball Association Development Team, the RimRockers; and arenafootball2 team, the Twisters, play at Alltel Arena. The Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament set the arena’s attendance record in 2003 with 43,642 fans filing in.

Little Rock, Arkansas’ largest city and capital, has a population of approximately 185,000. The city got its name from a small rock formation – La Petite Roche – on the south bank of the Arkansas River.

Major corporations and organizations in Little Rock include Alltel telecommunications, Axiom data information management, Dillard’s department store chain, the non-profit William J. Clinton Foundation and the American Taekwondo Association.

The William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park opened in November 2004 in downtown Little Rock to celebrate the two terms of Arkansas’ only U.S. President. It includes the extensive Clinton presidential library and the offices of the Foundation. The 150,000-square foot facility cantilevers over the Arkansas River and sits within a 28-acre park.

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History opened in 2001 and celebrates the state’s General Douglas MacArthur, the supreme commander of U.S. forces in the South Pacific during World War II.

Notable Little Rock universities include the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Clinton School of Public Service.

Famous people hailing from Little Rock include WWE Hall of Famer Bobo Brazil, Baltimore Orioles’ third baseman, Brooks Robinson; “Buck Rogers” actor, Gil Gerard; winner of “America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 6, Danielle Evans; President Clinton and U.S. Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton’s only child, Chelsea; and the band Evanescence.
