Prior to entering WWE, Helms was a star in WCW, where he held the Cruiserweight Champonship, a title he would once again hold after joining WWE, where he became the longest reigning Cruiserweight Champion in history. In 2007, Helms suffered a broken neck, which required that he spend the rest of the year and most of 2008 recovering from surgery.
During the 2009 WWE Supplemental Draft, ECW took the opportunity to bring Helms into the Land of the Extreme, where he has acted as a reporter, conducting interviews with many WWE Superstars.
