Armstrong makes announcing debut

Midway through ECW on Sci Fi, Brad Armstrong of the legendary Armstrong family joined Joey Styles and Tazz at the announce table. Armstrong, former WCW Cruiserweight Champion, helped to provide insight on the match between Matt Striker and Balls Mahoney.

“When I worked for WCW, I would set the VCR for ECW,” Armstrong admitted. “It was a one-hour action-packed show. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Armstrong said WWE and ECW are the companies he always dreamed of working for.

“Wrestling is a bit of a lost art these days,” he said. “That’s why you see guys like Finlay and Hardcore Holly in the ring: veterans who are hitting their stride, who are really hitting their peak.”

Making his commentating debut left Armstrong with jitters, but he credited Styles and Tazz for making his job easier with their talent.

“It’s a new challenge,” Armstrong explained. “I’m trying to stay physically fit as I get older, but this is a different direction.  You have to challenge your mind as well as your body.”

Despite being nervous, Armstrong enjoyed having the opportunity to speak to ECW fans. Sitting at the announce table has been a dream for him since childhood.

“If I can get paid for running my mouth, that’s the way I want to go. It’s not that I’m doing anything different; it’s just that I’m calling wrestling instead of wrestling.”
