Punk 2, Chavo 0

Punk 2, Chavo 0

WILKES-BARRE, Penn. -- The story is a common one: The virus you just can't shake. For ECW Champion CM Punk, that viral strain is Chavo Guerrero, his most recent chronic challenger.

In both of his two chances to earn a match for the ECW Championship he lusts after, Chavo came up short. In his first attempt at surpassing the so-called mere "stepping stone" between him and the gold, Chavo was stuck outside of the ring when the referee finished his 10-count. His shoulders stayed off the mat in his most recent effort as well, as he got himself disqualified from the competition. Adding the exclamition point, CM Punk applied the G.T.S. to the hopeful challenger.

Perhaps what Guerrero needs to do is learn how to stop beating himself before he carries out his goal in defeating CM Punk, something he has not been able to accomplish since the turn of the year.

When the two Superstars clashed for the first time since Chavo attacked Punk in his main event match against Montel Vontavious Porter, the champion wanted to redeem a rough end to 2007. And so far, he has done just that.

After proving himself to Chavo multiple times, Punk could theoretically focus his attention to the new challenges that await him, but he better be careful if he does. Once his back is turned to Guerrero, anything can happen.

Has CM Punk in fact exterminated the parasite? Or are Chavo's appearances on Tuesday nights just getting underway? Tune in to ECW on Sci Fi at 10/9 CT to find out.
