From King of the Ring 2001: Shane McMahon moments after crashing through a pane of glass on the entrance set.

ATLANTA – Tonight will not be a night for a pinstripe suit or Italian leather oxfords for Shane McMahon. Many miles from his office at WWE World Headquarters in Stamford, Conn., Shane will be making one of his few appearances in the squared circle this evening at Backlash.

“The main goal tonight is to make sure that Bobby Lashley is no longer the ECW World Champion,” Shane told WWE.com in a rare interview. “I don’t like Lashley’s chances.”

Be it a 50-foot drop from the Tron scaffolding, a crippling crash through the glass King of the Ring set or an astounding Coast to Coast, just about every time Shane has stepped in the ring, something unbelievable happens. In tonight’s 3-on-1 Handicap Match, Shane promises to again make a memorable impact – on the ECW World Title.

“Though I’ve only been in the ring very few times, I always try to make it count,” he explained. “It’s just much more of an intensity that has been one of the keys to my success. It’s in my blood.”

That blood will be standing right beside Shane later this evening in the form of the maniacal billionaire, Mr. McMahon. After Lashley humiliated the McMahon family name by shaving the Chairman’s head at WrestleMania 23, Shane is here at Backlash for his father and is focused on taking out ECW’s fighting champion.

Shane explained that despite the countless risks he’s taken and all the exciting moments, his primary objective tonight is retribution – and according to him, the McMahons will get it.

“Out of Umaga, my father and myself, one of us will leave Atlanta with the ECW World Title,” said the confident son of the WWE Chairman. “If I had to bet on it, I think that it will be somebody with the last name McMahon.”
