ATLANTA -- The Hardys defeated Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch to open Backlash in a true contest of tag team specialists for the World Tag Team Championship. The high-flyers retained their titles, but they had their hands full in the process.

Cade & Murdoch gave Jeff & Matt all they could handle, withstanding an incredible high-risk offense from the World Tag Team Champions and controlling much of the match by hitting them with powerful blows to keep them grounded.

It took bending the rules on The Hardys' part in order for them to retain the gold. When the referee was distracted by Matt and Cade outside of the ring, Jeff hit Murdoch with the Swanton Bomb despite not being tagged in. Matt climbed back into the squared circle for the cover, allowing The Hardys to escape with the victory.

"They're both tough and we knew we had our hands full tonight," Matt said. "We're happy with the results. The reign of Matt and Jeff continues to live on."
