Rolling Stone names Kevin Owens WWE Superstar of the Year (so far)

The first half of 2015 has come to a close, and Rolling Stone has named the top WWE Superstar of the year (so far). Think its Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns or WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins? You may be surprised that it’s neither. NXT Champion Kevin Owens – not that he wants or cares about the accolade – has taken the top honor.

Rolling Stone cites Owens’ undeniable impact since his NXT debut in December 2014, including his recent verbal sparring and fearlessness against United States Champion John Cena. In his first WWE match, Owens defeated the 15-time World Champion in a physical battle that pushed the Cenation leader to the limit.

Although Cena won the second match, the two Superstars will meet again at WWE Battleground, this time with Cena’s United States Championship at stake. If Owens defeats Cena and claims the U.S. Title, Rolling Stone may have to simply update its Superstar of the year profile of the NXT Champion with additional stats come December.
