The rankings are based on victories, quality of opponents, momentum and overall in-ring dominance, as well as intangibles. Be sure to check back every Saturday for the latest POWER 25. Here are the rankings for August 16:

TRIPLE H (17) The Game is back on top this week after toppling The Great Khali on SmackDown. He might have the mental edge, but it will certainly be a physical trial for him to retain his WWE Championship. |

| 2 |
EDGE (2) Though he may not have had a match this week, the Rated-R Superstar proved something to us. He might be in the perfect mental state to come out on top in Hell in a Cell against Undertaker at SummerSlam. |

After saying that they respect one another, it sure didn't seem that way after they lost the World Tag Team Titles at the end of Raw. What it looked like was two men that couldn't wait until SummerSlam to face off. |

The Punjabi Giant was taught a lesson by WWE Champion Triple H just one week after almost crushing his skull. We think this just might add fuel to Khali's fire and we could see a new WWE Champion Sunday. |
5 | |
| 5 |
On Raw, the World Heavyweight Champion showed JBL just who the Straightedge Superstar is. Afterwards, he shared a drink with his SummerSlam opponent ... and a knee to the face. |
3 | |
| 6 |
The World's Strongest Champion sent a message on ECW that could not have been any clearer. In the Land of the Extreme, it is his ring and he will not let any man challenge that fact, especially not Matt Hardy. |

| 7 |
A rock and a hard place can easily be used as the description of where Matt Hardy was on ECW. After picking up the win with ECW Champion Mark Henry, he was decimated with a World's Strongest Slam. |

| 8 |
In what might have very well been his toughest challenge to date since joining SmackDown, the Moscow Mauler went one-on-one with Festus and came out on top following a devastating head butt. |
8 | |
| 9 |
Ever since moving to Raw, Kofi Kingston has done nothing but impress The Academy as Intercontinental Champion, and we know he and Women's Champion Mickie James will both fight to retain their titles this Sunday. |
9 | |
| 10 |
Kane may have lost his match against Jericho, but that isn't our main concern right now. We are worried about Rey Mysterio's well being after Kane revealed that his burlap sack contained Mysterio's mask. |
7 | |
| 11 |
Jericho squeeked by with a win this week while Kane was distracted by Mike Adamle. If Michaels announces that he is unable to return to the ring on Sunday, it will be interesting to see who Jericho targets next. |
11 | |
| 12 |
SmackDown's Ballin' Superstar has been wreaking havoc on Jeff Hardy since he went to Friday nights. If MVP picks up a win this Sunday, we could see him breaking into the P25's top ten. |
12 | |
| 13 |
Debuting on SmackDown would seem like a good thing, unless you are going one-on-one against The World's Largest Athlete. Big Show dominated his opponent proving why he is one of the best in the business. |
15 | |
| 14 |
These two Superstars certainly weren't without gold around their waist for long. After losing the titles to two of the best Superstars in the company, the team regained gold just one week later on Raw. |
19 | |
| 15 |
If Mickie James wants to stay Women's Champion past Sunday and keep Kofi Kingston's Intercontinental gold around his waist, she'll have to forget about her loss on Raw and focus entirely on Sunday. |
14 | |
| 16 |
Well, Jeff Hardy will certainly be on a war path this Sunday. MVP prevented the Legend Thriller from almost certainly winning the United States gold on SmackDown and he'll have to pay for that. |
17 | |
| 17 |
It could be argued that Natalya is one of the most powerful Divas in the entire WWE. Unfortunately for Michelle McCool, it is only a matter of time before Natalya makes another go at winning the Divas Championship. |

| 18 |
Last week at this time, the Chain Gang Commander was one-half of the World Tag Team Champions. Now, all Cena seems to want is to prove himself as the better man against Batista at SummerSlam. |
13 | |
| 19 |
"The Dirt Sheet" stars have not had a good two weeks. After having their show made a mockery of last week, they had a chance at redemption on ECW, but ECW Champion Mark Henry & Matt Hardy were too much. |

As the weeks become days and the days become hours, we grow more and more nervous about what Shawn Michaels will have to say at SummerSlam. Have we seen the last of HBK in the squared circle? |
20 | |
| 22 |
The WWE Tag Team Champions have proven in recent weeks that they are worthy of holding the titles. We just wonder who will step up to the challenge these two young, talented Superstars. |
23 | |
| 23 |
On ECW, Bourne proved that he is not only one of the most athletic and innovative young Superstars on the roster, but even against a powerhouse like Bam Neely, his aerial skills can still put him on top. |
25 | |
| 24 |
The Gold Standard drops two spots this week after barely leaving SmackDown with the United States Championship. If it weren't for MVP's interefence, Benjamin may have lost his gold. |
22 | |
| 25 |
On Raw, the Braggadocios Italian Superstar picked up a win over Women's Champion Mickie James. If Beth Phoenix & Santino win at SummerSlam and pick up the titles, they may just skyrocket up the P25. |

"Why bother putting Khali so high? He's just going to drop after Triple H beats him anyway." - Carrie
The Academy replies: Time will tell on that, but if you're so sure of it, you have nothing to worry about.
"Come on. I know he lost, but does John Cena really deserve that treatment?" - Mike
The Academy replies: Unfortunately, the combination of his tag loss and the success of other Superstars near him dropped him quite a bit this week.
"The Miz & John Morrison are the funniest duo in WWE. They should never be out of the top 10." - Jamie
The Academy replies: Remember, it's The Academy of Wrestling Arts & Sciences, not Comedy & Sciences.
The following Superstar(s) failed to maintain their position on the P25 this week:
Michelle McCool – The Divas Champion drops off the P25 this week after losing in tag team action against Natalya & Maryse.
The following Superstar(s) also received votes from members of The Academy:
Maryse – With her teaming with Natalya on Raw, Maryse has definitely garnered the attention of The Academy. And, by tacking on another win, she may very well be breaking onto the list.
The Brian Kendrick – Since coming to SmackDown, The Brian Kendrick has definitely made a name for himself and with Ezekiel Jackson by his side, he has become a force to be reckoned with.
