Intro

All talk, plenty of action

The Hollywood writers strike has put a TV blackout on the kings of late night comedy for weeks, as David Letterman, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson and Conan O’Brien were forced to air reruns through the holiday season.

The holidays have passed, though, and the writers’ strike continues with no end in sight, but that hasn’t stopped these guys from putting on new shows, with writers (as in Letterman’s case, through a separate deal with his Late Night scribes) or without writers.

WWE has had its share of talk show hosts, and let’s say most are not too impressed with the late-night icons or their dilemma:

Edge, 'The Cutting Edge'

I don’t see what the big deal is about. Who needs writers when you’re the Rated-R Superstar? Raw saw its highest ratings ever whenever my show, 'The Cutting Edge,' was on. SmackDown’s ratings go through the roof whenever I decide to grace its program with my show. Maybe Leno, Letterman and Conan should have just booked me because let’s face it: The Rated-R Superstar equals ratings.”

MVP, 'MVP's VIP Lounge'

“As SmackDown – and WWE’s – premier and highest-paid entertainer, that makes me a man who can do it all. You see that every time I’m in the ring and every time I host my 'VIP Lounge.' Leno? Letterman? Conan? Kimmel? None of them will ever be better than the King of bling.”

We're not sure that MVP is better than all the other WWE TV show hosts. But he has had some unforgettable moments on the "VIP Lounge," such as when he hosted the legendary Freebird, Michael "P.S." Hayes. Watch what happened

Chris Jericho, 'The Highlight Reel'

“I haven’t done 'The Highlight Reel' in a few years, but maybe this means it needs its own ‘Second Coming’ as well. If nothing else, I think we need it to save us from boring, horsemouth drones of that wrestling afterthought, JBL. But while we’re on the topic, what’s up with Letterman and Conan’s beards? Were they trying to imitate Y2J from back in the day?”

Carlito, 'Carlito's Cabana'

“No one was ever cool enough to write for 'Carlito’s Cabana.' That’s why Carlito always took care of business for 'Carlito’s Cabana.' What the networks should do is fire all those other guys and hire Carlito. Now that – that would be cool.”

Carlito hasn't always had cool moments on his own show. Relive what happened when he had Triple H and Mr. McMahon on the "Cabana" last August. Watch the video ...

Shawn Michaels, 'The Heartbreak Hotel'

“‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper was the originator of the talk show in WWE, but I was hosting a little talk show named 'The Heartbreak Hotel' before talk shows were cool. Maybe Jay and Dave and Conan and Jimmy don’t need a show writer, but a Showstopper.”
